Abstract:
Nowadays, smart phones, Internet and other emerging technologies have been popular and greatly impacted traditional industry. Therefore the Chinese government adopts the concept “Internet plus traditional industry” in order to upgrade and transform the traditional industry. “Internet plus education” is one of such ideas and has been paid great attention by many stakeholders. Some hot topics in recent years focused by both researchers and practitioners from mainland China in the area of online learning and technology-enhanced learning, such as MOOC, micro lecture and flipped classroom, are all the theoretical exploration and practical experiments influenced by such a notation. However, some educational researchers believe that technology is just an approach to facilitate the education as the core and the root, thus the notion of “Education plus Internet” is more appropriate. Education, as an open, dynamic, complex, and non-linear system, with all its components including learners, educators, media, content and pedagogy interacting with each other, is also affected by external factors from policy makers, educational authorities and school administrators, technology providers through parents, whose interplays cannot be ignored. Among all the stakeholders of the educational system, the learner is the most important and central one, because educational system will not exist without the learner. Therefore, in the research of online learning and technology-enhanced learning, we should still focus on the learners, especially on the effect of technology on the learners, and the cost-effectiveness analysis.
