Seminar on "New Developments in Open Learning and Innovative Education"

Abstract:   In this first seminar held by the Institute for Research in OPen and INnovative Education (IROPINE), new developments in open learning and innovative education will be summarized, and their impact on our educational beliefs, practices and studies will also be discussed. The seminar will begin with the definitions, connotations and key elements in the notions of “open learning” and “innovative education” in the past and various contemporary settings. It will outline, with examples, current trends in technology-mediated education and paradigm shifts that have taken place in learning and teaching practices, especially in open education. The seminar will cover disruptive technologies and disruptive innovations in the contexts of open learning and higher education, and explore the snowballing potentials of individualized learning, the portability of just-in-time learning tools, and data-driven analyses. Against the background of the changes in education, a number of promising research areas will be highlighted.
