Abstract: Singapore’s performance in education and economics has been eye-catching. Despite its smallness in size, the country has made outstanding achievements on many fronts, and has become an active and notable player in the international arena. For example, Singapore, together with Hong Kong, has been selected as one of the top ten education systems in the 2007 McKinsey Report. Amazingly both Singapore and Hong Kong stayed in the list when the 2012 McKinsey Report reduced to analyze only the top five education systems. This seminar is to share my observations about how the Singapore education system prepares its students to become 21st Century citizens, as this may have underscored all these achievements. The presentation will particularly focus on the tripartite strategy adopted by the Singapore government that integrates policy, research and practice.
